There are many things to do in
Los Angeles, many which do not require much money to enjoy. Whether you are in this city for a day or a week, there are several authentic Southern California experiences that should not be missed.
Six Flags Magic Mountain
Six Flags Magic Mountain is a 260-acre theme park with some of the best rides in the world. As of 2009, the park is expected to host 16 roller coasters. The park is fairly compact in size, but visitors should consider using the monorail to avoid exhaustion. There are also water rides, general entertainment such as shows and concerts, and a wide variety of food to sample.

South Bay Beaches
Visiting the South Bay beaches of Los Angeles is a great way to spend all or part of a day. These beaches are located south of Los Angeles International Airport along Pacific Coast Highway. Manhattan beach offers a pier and a walking strand, as well as a number of restaurants and shops. Beach volleyball is also often available, and many shops rent gear targeted to beach-goers. A stop at nearby Redondo Beach, with its own pier and six blocks of shops and cafes resembling southern France, is also a great bet.
Rodeo Drive
Rodeo Drive is an authentic experience to see the richest people in Los Angeles, including celebrities and the agents behind their fame. This section of Beverly Hills features a host of popular restaurants and shops such as Armani, Gucci and Coco Chanel. Parking is difficult to come by, and it might be necessary to park your car farther and do a bit of walking. You may need to park near the Beverly Wilshire hotel, the spot that was featured in the Richard Gere and Julia Roberts film "Pretty Woman."

Venice Beach
If you can go only to one spot during your trip to Los Angeles, Venice Beach should be it. This has beaches, celebrities, down-and-out people, bikers, hipsters and every bit of diversity that makes up Los Angeles. Walking is the best way to get around Venice Beach, and you might see some of Arnold Schwarzenegger's bodybuilding buddies bulking up at Muscle Beach. There is also a boardwalk full of games, vendors and food for kids and adults to enjoy, plus a host of local artists in the area performing songs and drawing.
