Things to Do in Japantown, San Francisco
Japantown in
San Francisco is a popular day trip for many visitors. The Japantown area features shops with authentic Japanese goods, cafes, noodle bars, karaoke lounges and sushi bars. If you have a place to cook your own food while in San Francisco, there are also markets that feature all the fresh and imported ingredients for cooking Japanese cuisine. Shopping, restaurants and local spas are other popular activities in Japantown.
Go Shopping at Ichiban Kan
The Ichiban Kan store is like a Japanese version of Walmart. There are many imported items that just can't be found anywhere else. A package of dehydrated seaweed salad will set you back a buck and some change. Add water to the salad and it magically increases in volume. There are so many items to browse through, you could spend a full day getting through the store.

Eat at Takara
Takara serves authentic sushi and Japanese cuisine. The restaurant uses fresh ingredients and the portions are large. Dishes to try include the barbecued eel or "una don," salt broiled mackerel and a dish served in an iron pot with rice and crab meat. Takara's menu is reasonably priced and the clientele is comprised of many Japanese people, which gives you an indication that the food is authentic.

Visit the Kabuki Springs and Spa
A trip to the Kabuki Springs and Spa is just the ticket to pamper yourself after a long day of browsing the shops in Japantown. The spa offers a variety of services to either calm or energize. Services include Shiatsu and Swedish massage, facials, body wraps and acupuncture. They also offer packages that group services together to achieve the best results.
