Detroit is an exciting city, alive with music, history and mechanical wonders. Visitors have a multitude of choices when it comes to entertainment, and you should try to enjoy a variety of them, no matter your age and taste and regardless of what season you choose to arrive.
Detroit Historical Museum

A visit to the museum will allow not only a look into the city's history, but also its architecture, car and toy manufacturing industry and even the city's design, including its famous cobblestone streets. New exhibits are constantly being added and the museum was expanded (and new rooms built) as recently as 2006. The 100 Years Ago exhibit showcases the look and feel of Detroit in the 19th century, while the Motor City exhibit chronicles the history of the automobile and Henry Ford's legacy. Other permanent collections include Detroit's Classic TV Personalities, 1920s: Detroit's Building Boom, and Hero or Villain? Metro Detroit's Legacy of Leadership.

Music and Entertaining

While you can find live music of almost any kind playing in Detroit, it almost feels wrong not to attend a concert of one of the two types of music born in the city: Motown and techno genres. The Motown Historical Museum is a good place to starts, as it not only chronicles the history of the musical genre, but it also showcases memorabilia, costumes and gold/platinum records. Those arriving in summer should stop by the Detroit River and Hart Plaza to enjoy some of the outdoor concerts, while those who want a taste of something different should visit Seldom Blues for live jazz and blues.

Ford Rouge Factory Tour

No visitor should leave Detroit without visiting a car factory, especially if it's one that offers a tour and particularly if the cars being built are Fords. A five-part experience that includes films, a viewing deck and the chance to peek into the final F-150 assembly line of the factory, this is must-see for the whole family. The factory is a fully working one and guides are available to answer questions about the production and manufacturing of the cars.
