Things to Do in Casa Grande, Arizona
Casa Grande is just a stones throw from
Phoenix and brings travelers a bit closer to the Old West. Ancestral home to the Hohokam Indians, Casa Grande blends a respect for the history of the area with the growth of a modern city. A nice stop while traveling to larger sites like the Grand Canyon, Casa Grande offers visitors a respite from the crowds of Tuscan and Phoenix, but presents plenty to do for a weekend.
Casa Grande Ruins National Monument
A beautiful natural environment plays backdrop to this important preservation effort. At the Casa Grande Ruins you get the chance to see an ancient Hohokam Great House and farming plot. Protected since 1918, the National Monument area also is home to the American Indian Music Festival in February, so if you are in the area, you must stop. A visit here really sets the tone for your visit to Casa Grande. You'll find it off of Highway 87/287 (just follow the signs). Get more information at www.nps.gov/cagr.
Mission Royal Golf Club
A typical par 72 golf course, the greens are well tended and provide you with plenty to smile about while you make your way through the 18 holes. You'll need your sun hat or visor, but crowds are low and tee times are usually available without a problem. So stretch out from a long drive and check out the course.

Casa Grande Art Museum
Housed in the Kratzka House, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this modern art museum is home to Arizona's best and brightest. A wide variety of paintings, pottery, sculpture and textiles gives you a sense of the region's colors and culture. Special exhibits change four times a year, so feel free to go each time you're in the area.

Ghost Hunting
Perhaps due to the energy of the Native Americans originally occupying this land, Casa Grande is said to be chock-full of ghostly activity. Visitors tell of a ghostly figure wandering down the highway at night with a Llama, and a spooky apparition is said to have been seen trying to make a phone call from a phone booth in town. Talk to the locals to hear their stories and get more locations to check out.
