Things to Do Around Detroit, Michigan
Detroit, Michigan is nicknamed the "Motor City." The city is full of daytime excitement and nighttime fun. While Detroit's economy has struggled over the past few years, the city still thrives heavily on one thing: entertainment. Music, activities and sporting events prosper in this bustling city.
Casinos
One of the biggest attractions to Detroit is the casinos. Detroit is home to three luxury-class casinos and hotels: Greektown, MGM and Motorcity. Each has a hotel attached as well as five-star dining facilities as well. Additionally, each casino has a player's club card that rewards game players as they spend at both the slots and the tables. Players who are on an email list are reminded of monthly prize drawings for vacations and cash giveaways. Greektown casino offers a comps club for high-limit players who are invited to rack up points to use at local restaurants along Greektown or at the casino store.
Sporting events
Detroit is home to the Detroit Lions and the Detroit Redwings. Ford Field, located in the heart of Detroit, offers not only sporting venues but entertainment events as well. The sprawling facility seats 65,000 people and has 132 suites for VIP guests and visitors. This large-scale facility is about 30 minutes away from Metro airport, the state's largest airport.
Cobo Center
At Cobo Center, there is an array of events and conferences that Michiganders and visitors can attend. Home of the Detroit North American Auto Show---Cobo brought in automobiles from nearby Detroit as well as all over the world. Specialized Expos and science and engineering fairs are also located here. Cheer and Dance regional and national championships are also often held at this large expo center.
Detroit Institute of Arts
The Detroit Institute of Arts is a large scale learning facility showcasing some of the regions and the world's finest art displays. This large facility offers a 600,000 square foot museum that holds an auditorium, an art reference library and a conservation services laboratory. Most of the collection Includes European, American, Contemporary, Graphic and Modern Art, offering an array of sights to see and feel at this extraordinary facility.
Detroit Zoo
At the Detroit Zoo there are over 120 different species of animals to observe. The giraffe encounter is unique to the Detroit Zoo. Guests can view from an elevated platform and see up close how giraffes interact with each other in their habitat. There is a Tauber Family Railroad that offers a round trip view around the zoo---making it a great first stop for guests to see what exhibits they want to check out first.
