Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge

The Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge comprises more than 13,000 acres and extends to three of the five boroughs of New York City: Queens, Brooklyn and Staten Island. The refuge is a federally protected area with plenty of outdoor activities. Things to do include swimming at Jacob Riis Park, surfing at the Breezy Point Surf Club, indoor ice skating, fishing, hiking on one of the four trails, biking, bird watching, boating, camping, golf, horseback riding, picnicking, model airplane flying and archery.

The Cloisters

The Cloisters is part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art that is devoted entirely to the Middle Ages. The museum also has a Medieval Garden with daily guided tours from May to October. The permanent collection includes stained glass from the 13th century and carved religious figures from the 12th century. The museum also hosts special concerts and special holiday celebrations.
