The Magic Kingdom is the oldest theme park in Walt Disney World. The park welcomed more than 17 million visitors in 2008, making it the most visited park in the world, according to Themed Entertainment Association.
History
The theme park opened in 1971. Although the park was the dream of Walt Disney, he died before construction could begin. His brother, Roy, oversaw the completion of the park.
The Lands of the Magic Kingdom
The theme park is divided into sections known as lands. These lands include Main Street, U.S.A., Adventureland, Tomorrowland, Frontierland, Liberty Square, Fantasyland, and Mickey's Toontown. In the center is Cinderella Castle.
Notable Attractions in the Park
The park is home to classic rides such as the Mad Tea Party, the Jungle Cruise, Pirates of the Caribbean, and the Haunted Mansion. Thrill rides include Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
Nighttime Spectaculars
Every evening, visitors line Main Street, U.S.A. to watch the fireworks show centered around Cinderella Castle. Nighttime parades featuring characters from Disney movies run on a varying schedule.
Character Dining
With advance reservations, guests can enjoy special dining experiences. You can have a meal at Cinderella's Table in the castle or have breakfast or lunch with other Disney characters in select restaurants throughout the park. Reservations should be made a minimum of 2 to 4 weeks in advance.
