Summer Activities in Carson, California for Children
Carson is located in southern California and is 16 miles south of downtown
Los Angeles. Its history is rich --- dating back 250 years when European explorers settled into the area. A few years later, Franciscan missionaries came to set up missions. Carson is just miles from the beautiful California
beaches, as well as Los Angeles Harbor. Fortunately, there are many things for children to do in Carson during the summer months.
Pools
There are four aquatic centers operated by the city of Carson. Each pool is heated and has lockers and hot showers. Children will enjoy playing and swimming during their open hours, which vary among facilities. In addition, swim lessons, lifeguard courses for children and swim clubs are available throughout the summer. Check www.ci.carson.ca.us and select "Park and Recreations" and then "Aquatics" to view a listing of the city pools, hours, and programs.
Day Camps
There are a plethora of summer day camps for children to participate in Carson. The YMCA, Girls and Boys Club, Department of Recreation and Parks and private companies offers a large variety of options. For instance, the Dominguez Hills' Learning Center offers golf camp. For soccer players, the David Beckham Academy is located in Carson. For more affordable camps, the Rec and Parks and YMCA hold camps that will engage children in crafts, games, swimming and other fun recreational activities all summer long for a low fee.
Friday Night Movies
At 6 p.m. every Friday night during the summer, Del Amo Park hosts movie night. Call the park office to find out the summer schedule. Bring a blanket and snacks and enjoy a free night with the family.

Free Family Film Festival
On Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, Regal Cinemas has free summer movies for the kids. Usually, there is a G and PG rated movie playing at the same time for families to choose. There are several Regal Cinemas located near Carson, including in Promenade Stadium 13 located in Rolling Hills Estates.

Sports Games
Carson, California is home to the Home Depot Center Sports Complex, where the LA Galaxy and LA Sol teams play in June and July. In August, the complex hosts the LA Women's Tennis Championships. There are other events that occur during the summer as well, like X Games where sports like skateboarding and Motocross compete. The complex is located campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills.
