American History in Ohio
Ohio became a state in 1803, amid a crush of industrialization that was at the forefront of its time. Because the Erie Canal waterway was such a vital trade route, some Ohio cities grew to be thriving metropolitan areas. Many of the old buildings and cities remain, and have developed into beautiful shopping areas, with architectural treasures just waiting to be seen by fresh eyes. Take a walk through Sandusky, Cleveland or Toledo's historic neighborhoods and see for yourself.
Shopping & Dining in Ohio
According to OhioTraveler.com, northeast Ohio boasts more high-quality dining opportunities than anywhere in the state. The website recommends the larger cities such as Toledo and Cleveland for international shopping and a drive into the country for antiques, quilts and Amish handiwork.
Ohio Theme Parks
Ohio offers the Cedar Point Amusement Park as well as the Kalahari resort in the Sandusky area. King's Island, in Paramount, is the largest theme park in the Midwest. Because the winters are so cold in Ohio, several indoor theme parks operate all year long.
Exploring Nature in Ohio
Ohio State Park resorts boast white sand beaches, caves and caverns, hikes along waterfalls and plenty of natural beauty in a resort-like environment that features golfing, swimming and even hot spring spas.
