Shopping in New York City
No visit to New York City is complete without taking advantage of some of its incredible shopping opportunities. From high-end designers to budget buys, this is a city that has it all.
Fifth Avenue

Fifth Avenue may be the ultimate shopping destination in the US. From Bergdorf Goodman and Louis Vuitton to the Disney and the NBA stores, the stretch between 49th Street and 59th Street is definitively a shopper's paradise. Prices here are not for the faint of heart, and many tourists just window-shop rather than venture into the stores. The famous FAO Schwarz toy store and the Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa are also here in case you need a break from the chaos of shopping. Saks Fifth Avenue is one of NYC's premier department stores.

Macy's

A mid-range department store, Macy's is also the world's largest. Founded in 1858, Macy's plays an important role in New York City's life and history. In November, Macy's sponsors the Thanksgiving Day Parade, and in December, it becomes the world's "best window shopping experience," as complex holiday displays are set up for visitors to enjoy. Shoppers can find anything from bed and bath accessories to fashion to home supplies here, but Macy's is best known for its many beauty counters and exclusive jewelry and watches sellers. Anybody shopping at Macy's can stop by the customer service's desk to show her receipt in order to receive a free tote bag with the store's official logo.

Discount Shopping

If Fifth Avenue is out of your league, don't despair. Outlets abound in NYC. The most famous one may be Century 21, located at 22 Cortlandt Street in the Financial District. Best known for great deals on clothing and accessories (including bags and jewelry), the store also sells bedding and electronics. Another great discount outlet is Loehmann's, where shoppers can find high-end designer merchandise for up to 70 percent off their original price. Loehmann's is located on Seventh Avenue and 17th Street.
