Savannah Travel and Tourism

Savannah is proud of its inheritance and tradition. The Southern comfort and style, lush gardens, friendly folk and renowned restaurants have turned it into one of Georgia's peak travel destinations.
Where to Stay

Visitors can choose to stay in hotels, such as the AVIA Savannah, which opened in January 2009; Hampton Inn; Comfort Inn; Marriott hotels; and other chains. Bed-and-breakfast inns are also plentiful.

Areas to Explore

Attractions abound: the Scarborough house, Savannah Art Museum, Telfair Mansion, the Girl Scout National Center, the Wesley Monumental Church, Riverfront Plaza, Colonial Park Cemetery, the Davenport House and Forsyth Park (known for its Confederate Memorial and fountain modeled after ones in Paris and Peru).

Savannah Monuments

Historic monuments related to the Civil War are plentiful in the city. Travelers can see the oldest fortification in Georgia at Fort Jackson, just outside of town. The site offers blacksmithing demonstrations, exhibits and battle re-enactments. Many of these monuments can be found in Savannah's 21 squares, hallmarks of the city, which are beautifully landscaped with trees and flowers.

Evening Activities

For night life, check out the Diamond Casino Cruise Ships and the Historic Savannah Theater. Southern cuisine is easy to find and easy to like at restaurants such as Dockside Seafood, Olde Pink House, Tony Roma's and Lady and Sons (the restaurant owned by Food Network celebrity Paula Deen).

Getting to Savannah

Visitors can reach the city by air through the Savannah International Airport or by train via Amtrak. Buses service into Savannah is also available. Once in Savannah, tourists can travel through the city by carriage or can take a ride along the waterways.
