San Antonio is known far and wide to all students of U.S. history as the home of the Alamo, which still is its biggest tourist attraction. Be sure not to miss this historic treasure where both Davy Crockett and James Bowie died, but also make sure you don't miss the other great attractions that make San Antonio a top vacation spot. Once you experience the rest of San Antonio, you will want to stay awhile and come back often.

There are three buildings to visit on the 4.2 acres at the Alamo--the shrine, the Long Barrack Museum and a gift shop/museum. All three have historic exhibits to tell visitors about the 13 days in 1836 when a band of Americans defended the mission from the Mexican army and died there.

The River Walk is like another whole city beneath the city of San Antonio, and the two could not be more different. Along the San Antonio River below the city, restaurants, bars, shops, cafes and beautiful walking paths line the banks of the river along with shade trees, plants, flowers and waterfalls. While many people walk the River Walk, there are water taxis to ferry people to any destination along the river.

HemisFair Park was the site of the 1968 World's Fair. The observation tower from the fair, the Tower of Americas, is still on the grounds, as are some of the exhibits. Visitors can also see the Mexican Culture Center, the University of Texas San Antonio's Institute of Texan Cultures, and see performances in the Magik Theater.
