At the beginning of the 20th century,
Chicago was a gathering point for immigrants from eastern
Europe. Not counting Warsaw, Poland's capital, Chicago has the world's largest Polish population. Their culture and traditions are still evident in the city today.
Chicago also has a large population of Russian immigrants. This Russian influence has made it one of the best cities in the U.S. to find authentic Russian food.
Russian Tea Time
Russian Tea Time is a Russian restaurant in the city's Adams Street artistic district. As you might expect from the name, Russian Tea Time has an excellent afternoon tea service, but what you might not expect is the extensive lunch and dinner menu that it also provides. The head chef hails from Uzbekistan and specializes in salads and rich vegetable stews from that area. Russian Tea Time is by far Chicago's most well-known Russian restaurant.

Sak's Ukrainian Village Restaurant and Lounge
Sak's Ukrainian Village may not receive the critical acclaim of Russian Tea Time, but the tiny Ukrainian restaurant has a very authentic, down-home feel. What it lacks in sophisticated atmosphere, it more than makes up with traditional Ukrainian favorities like potato pancakes, pierogies (dumplings), and borscht (beet soup). It's a meal that will make you feel like you're back in the old country.

Healthy Food Lithuanian Restaurant
Healthy Food Lithuanian Restaurant takes diners back to the start of the 20th century, when lunch counters served the city's many ethnic workers their favorite foods from their homelandswork.
While the food is very good, it is really the old-school atmosphere that makes this restaurant a must-try stop.
