Indianapolis is known for its upscale restaurants and its traditional American and diverse ethnic cuisine. It's an area also ripe with
romantic eateries, according to diner voting on Urbanspoon.com. Multiple North Indianapolis restaurants constitute Urbanspoon's list of the city's most romantic diners, places where couples can enjoy a quiet romantic dinner for two.
Taj of India
Taj of India tops the list of the most romantic restaurants. Out of more than 270 people who rated the restaurant, 83 percent liked it. Located on the northeast side of Indianapolis, the eatery offers Indian and vegetarian lunch and dinner.
Taj of India's soft lighting and authentic music provide a romantic atmosphere in a quiet and subdued setting. The restaurant carries the name of India's famous Taj Mahal, which Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan built in memory of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal, who died in childbirth. In this romantic story, it's believed the emperor promised his wife in her last moments that he would build the world's most beautiful monument in her memory.
Taj of India's specialties include Balti curry and baked Tandoori delicacies featuring lamb, chicken, seafood and rice. Appetizers such as lentil soup and desserts like mango fruit pudding also are served. A wine list additionally is available.

Mama Carolla's Old Italian Restaurant
Mama Carolla's Old Italian Restaurant is located in Broad Ripple Village, a cultural district north of downtown Indianapolis. This romantic eatery received more than 370 votes, 85 percent of which were favorable.
The restaurant was originally built as a 1920s Mediterranean-style stucco home. The eatery's architecture, candles, intimate space and decor of wrought iron and period light fixtures give it a cozy, low-key, romantic ambiance. The many martini and cocktail offerings also add to the atmosphere. In addition, on winter nights, a wood-burning fire glows in the fireplace.
Mama Carolla's serves its Italian specialties and wine bar Tuesdays through Saturdays. The restaurant also offers romantic outdoor dining. Dishes feature veal, steak, pork, chicken, fish and pasta in red, white and herb sauces. Appetizers such as steamed mussels and desserts including tiramisu also are options.

Oh Yumm! Bistro
Oh Yumm! Bistro is another popular choice for a romantic restaurant on the north side of Indianapolis. Out of the more than 60 people who rated the bistro, 81 percent liked it. The restaurant offers breakfast on weekends and lunch and dinner Tuesdays through Saturdays.
The restaurant offers a relaxed, refined, cozy atmosphere for two with charming art and decor. It also serves dinner on its quaint patio. One of the restaurant's romantic desserts includes strawberries sauteed in merlot sauce and served over vanilla bean ice cream.
The bistro serves American and French food as well as seafood. Gluten-free food and children's meals also are served. Free Wi-Fi and outdoor dining are available.
