Review of Wilderness Waterpark in Wisconsin Dells
Wisconsin is home to America's largest water park
resort, the Wilderness Waterpark. The resort, in Wisconsin Dells, has water slides, lazy rivers, wave pools and an indoor water park with a see-through roof for tanning. Wilderness has eight water parks all together, adding up to 250,000 square feet of splashing fun. In addition to the water rides, guests can enjoy 3-D and black light accents while exploring tanks of exciting sea life or take in a game of mini golf.
Features
Many accommodation options, with up to five bedrooms, are available at the Wilderness Resort. For a more luxurious stay, the Villas are the perfect choice. Each unit is professionally decorated, leaning toward a rustic decor. Traditional hotel rooms offer an affordable option for guests.
Dining is held at a very high standard at Wilderness. Field's at the Wilderness serves gourmet dishes in a setting surrounded by waterfalls, indoor pools and contemporary architecture.
The Wild Water Dome is an indoor water park that offers family racing on water rafts and a large wave pool. Klondike Kavern is a great place for kids and adults of all ages. There is a lazy river, a hurricane water raft ride and an interactive play structure for kids. The Wild West Waterpark has a Fantastic Voyage raft ride that provides interactive excitement for the whole family.
Pros and Cons
The larger accommodations available at Wilderness Waterpark allow groups or big families to stay together, not be split into multiple rooms. Camping is also a good option for large groups. Wilderness has trained lifeguards at every water location, helping to keep guests safe. But the resort's best attribute is the wide variety of water parks and activities.
The expense is a big downside to Wilderness Waterpark. Though the resort includes the cost of the parks in the stay, it makes up for it when individuals are added to a package. Checking the resort's website or calling the reservation desk periodically is an easy way to find good specials on rooms. This resort does offer classy restaurants and bistros, but the cost of a meal for a family can rise quickly.
Bottom Line
This is a great themed resort for families with kids. There is something for all ages, from toddlers to teens. Because the water parks are inclusive, there is no need for cards or wristbands. Wilderness Waterpark accommodates large groups and offers a conference center and media cabin for a family reunion, company picnic or business meeting. The dry land activities, including golf and laser tag, offer options for family members who don't want to be in the water. The price doesn't include food, but it does cover some activities such as mini-golf. For a change of scenery, the grounds of the resort give guests a place to hike and explore.
