Review of Snowshoe Mountain Resort
Snowshoe Mountain is in the renowned Allegheny Mountains of West Virginia and part of the biggest and grandest winter resort in the United States. The most dramatic part of the terrain includes two black diamond trails that comprise an area called The Western Territory. The runs have 1,500-foot vertical drops and are 1 1/2 miles long. The area is great for dining, shopping and just enjoying the landscape. The Snowshoe Resort, though no 5-star hotel, is comfortable and above average in its services and facilities. It has all the amenities a traveler could want. With its great location, any ski enthusiast would jump at a chance to stay here and try The Western Territory ski slope.
Features

The Resort has 57 slopes and trails. The resort offers winter adventure tours including cross country skiing, back country adventure, snowmobiling and more. There is plenty to do in summer as well with fishing, kayaking and horseback riding available through the tour desk. The lodge also offers a conference center for business meetings and the rooms have wireless Internet and satellite TV. Every room has full kitchen facilities with fireplace and balconies. Daily maid service is available for towel refreshment and trash removal. There are indoor and outdoor pools, a gym, and Jacuzzi and sauna for all guests to use. With great rooms and a children's game room, families can relax together.

Pros and Cons

The hotel has a beautiful view of the mountain and the rooms make the best of the landscape. The shuttle service that takes the guests from the lobby to their "villa" allows guests to relax. Though the condition of the units may not be first rate and scruff marks on the wall along with the thin bed linens may show a lack of maintenance, the resort is well run. The staff is friendly and the fireplace in every room makes the rooms feel cozy at night. The short stroll to the slopes and the several cafes on the way, including Starbucks, is a great way to feel connected to civilization. The lighting in the hallways is at times very dim making the unit look dreary. With the Village nearby, noise sometimes carries.

Bottom Line

The rooms are not posh and stylish; they resemble the basic cottage variety rather than a modern luxurious resort room. However, the terrain, the facilities and amenities more than makes up for this lack of style in the rooms. The slopes are perfect for all types of skiers and there is enough to keep the children entertained when traveling as a family. Couples can opt to lounge in your room in the evening with the fire blazing in the hearth and enjoy a romantic dinner. This resort helps people appreciate the simplicity of nature and the starkness of its beauty.
