The Pink Palace provides a breathtaking backdrop for this world-famous feast
Perhaps the only thing more famous on Waikiki
beach than the hotel dubbed "The Pink Palace" since its inception in 1927 is its Aha Aina Luau. The Royal Hawaiian
resort offers Waikiki's only oceanfront luau, offering those who attend an amazing view of Diamond Head, inordinate amounts of food and entertainment that make the whole experience a memorable one.
Wows and Woes
Wows: The entertainment, food and views are noteworthy. The extravaganza features Hawaiian delicacies and dancers moving to the beat of the drums under the moonlight.
Woes: The cost to attend the luau, while discounted for hotel guests, is quite high.
Insider Tips
If you are a planner, be sure to save Monday night for attending the Royal Hawaiian luau, since this is the only night of the week it is offered. If you will be attending with young children, make sure they are rested because the luau goes until 9 p.m.
Author's Most Memorable Moment
After being welcomed with a traditional lei greeting, we were given cocktails and began listening to three men strumming ukuleles while expert dancers impressed us with their hula moves. I asked if I could join, and they welcomed me with open arms. The impromptu hula class I received is one I will never forget.
Bottom Line
Providing you don't mind plunking down the cash, the Royal Hawaiian Luau won't disappoint. Throughout the evening, you will be wined and dined and thoroughly entertained.
