Home to Shula's Steakhouse and located right on
Miami beach, the Alexander Hotel is actually a condo-hotel rather than a full-service luxury
resort. The hotel has two oceanfront pools, easy beach access and a generous, fresh breakfast buffet for guests. Rich wood paneling and elegant furniture adorn the lobby, but the trend does not continue into guest rooms.
Wows and Woes
The units are large and many have multiple bedrooms and bathrooms, there is an adults-only pool and the family giant pool has some shallow areas for kids, waterfalls and two whirlpools.
Unfortunately, the units are not in tip-top condition, and some have worn furniture and broken fixtures. Neither does WiFi work well throughout the building.
Insider Tips
Advertised as an "exclusive and intimate" resort, the Alexander does not deliver. Because the units are individually owned, the decor and condition are inconsistent, so ask for details about the unit you'll be assigned to. Units on the north side of the building have ocean views but are located over an alley filled with dumpsters.
Author's Most Memorable Moment
Walking into the resort, we were impressed by the intricate woodwork and luxury decor. Our daughter spent hours splashing around in the pool and under the waterfalls. But our package was supposed to include breakfast, and we literally had to argue with the front desk to get our coupons.
Bottom Line
This high-priced resort claims to be kid-friendly and have a lot of amenities but falls short. Front desk staff and management are indifferent.
