Detroit is home of the coney dog and square deep dish pizza.
Detroit, Michigan--known as the Motor City and the birthplace of Motown--is a large metropolitan area with a variety of attractions, including shopping, restaurants, bars and night clubs. The city is the largest in the state of Michigan and the only city in the continental U.S. that looks south to
Canada with Windsor, Ontario just across the Detroit River. If you're heading to the west side of Detroit, you'll not only find the locally famous Detroit coney dog and square deep-dish pizza, but other local restaurants that feature the flavors of the area.
Laffrey's Steaks on the Hearth
Laffrey's Steaks On The Hearth is located in the Five Points area, 10 miles to the west and north of downtown. The restaurant is family-owned and -operated, offering ambient surroundings and USDA Grade A cuts of prime beef and fresh Boston seafood. The restaurant is a local institution, with its brick and mahogany walls and pink lighting evoking memorable dining experiences since 1968.

Scotty Simpson's Fish & Chips
Fish and chips is something that's fairly popular in the Detroit area and something that they are not often recognized for. Scotty Simpson's Fish & Chips has been around since the 1950s and has become a sort of West Detroit landmark. The restaurant is easy to get to, located just north of Interstate 96, five miles to the west of downtown Detroit. The casual interior sports wood-paneled walls, but it's the heaping plates of fish, shrimp, chicken and chips that get the most attention. You can also get a steak if you so deem, but the order of the day here is the deep-fried, crispy fish.
