The Doubletree Hotel Tucson at Reid Park is in the middle of the city, within walking distance to the Reid Park Zoo. The recently renovated rooms and suites offer families many choices in accommodations and views. Guests can choose between one king or two double beds, and views of the mountains or the courtyard swimming area. Amenities include a fitness center, tennis courts, a beauty salon, two restaurants and a lounge, children's activities, a business center, a concierge desk and a convenience store.
Wows and Woes

The rooms are some of the finest in the city, and quite a surprise compared to many other Doubletrees. The views of the mountains and the peaceful surroundings make for a relaxing experience.

The staff is friendly and helpful, but many lack proficient English skills and communication can be difficult. Waiting times at the on-site restaurant were long for breakfast and early dinner.

Tucson is not pleasant to visit during the summer with the scorching sun bearing down on travelers. The best time to see the city is during the University of Arizona's spring break week in March. Most students will be out of town, and visitors can indulge in the restaurants, nightlife and mountain trails without fighting the crowds. The weather is a lot more temperate.

Author's Most Memorable Moment

My dinner at the Javelina Cantina the first night is what really set the standard for the trip. This is the type of "watering hole" I picture in the Southwest when watching old cowboy movies. I ordered the Burro Grande with Barbocoa Beef, and my mouth lit up at the first taste. This spicy, flavorful dish is what border cuisine should be about. It made me want to stand up and line dance with joy!

Bottom Line

With spacious and reinvigorated interior rooms, hospitable staff and a thorough dining menu, the Doubletree Hotel Tucson at Reid Park is worth the trip to the Valley of the Sun.
