Red Rocks Colorado Facts

Geography buffs and music lovers alike will enjoy visiting the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in the Red Rocks Park, which is a part of the Rocky Mountains. If you aren't fortunate enough to take in an outdoor concert under the stars and "on the rocks," you should still make this a vacation destination to enjoy the amazing, panoramic, views of nature.
Location

The famous Red Rocks Amphitheater is within Red Rocks Park. Its mailing address is 16351 County Rd. 93 in Morrison, Colorado. It is approximately 15 miles west of Denver and approximately 80 miles south of Fort Collins, Colorado.

Function

Red Rocks Amphitheatre is a popular venue for outdoor film and music festivals and concerts. Every August, it is host to the Reggae on the Rocks concert, featuring such famous names as The Wailers, Gregory Isaac and Steel Pulse.

Geography

The geographic features of this amphitheatre make this a unique entertainment venue because of its open air setting, natural acoustics and placement between two giant rock formations, which loom taller than Niagara Falls. Visitors have breathtaking views of Denver city in the distance and mountainous vistas.

Fun Facts

The Red Rocks were listed once as one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The stone from which the amphitheatre is formed holds fossils dating more than 200 million years into the past.

Seating

The amphitheatre holds nearly 1,000 people. Because of the dynamic organization of the rows of seats, every one in attendance will be able to see the stage and enjoy a quality sound experience.

Hours

No matter the weather or time of year, the park is open to visitors every day from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m (unless a concert is scheduled). If there is not a concert, tourists can walk around the area, visit the gift shop or dine at the Ship Rock Grille.
