How to Plan a Walt Disney World Vacation

Disney World
Disney World
Walt Disney World is one of the most popular vacation destinations in the United States. It has a lot to offer to both children and adults. If you plan to take a vacation to Walt Disney World, it will be beneficial to put together a plan before you go. This will ensure that you have time to spend in each of the parks that interest you, as well as enjoy the surrounding area.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You'll Need:
  • Disney vacation planning DVD List of special events
  • Disney vacation planning DVD
  • List of special events
Step 1

Request your free Disney vacation planning DVD (see resources). This DVD covers all of Disney's theme parks as well their hotels, campsites and resorts. It will show you some of your dining options. This information will give you an idea of what to include in your plan.

Step 2

Check Disney's special events list to decide when you want to make the trip. If your family is into Star Wars, for example, you can plan your trip around one of the Star Wars Weekends. There are also special flower and garden shows, wine festivals and Mickey Mouse Christmas specials.

Step 3

Decide if you want to drive to Disney or fly. Driving can save you money, but many of the discount Disney vacation packages include airfare. If you plan to drive you will want to take in to consideration how many days it will take to get there and get back. Include this information in your total vacation time.

Step 4

Pick your hotel. Disney offers deluxe hotels, moderate hotels, value resorts, club resorts and a campground. Your choice can be made to fit your budget or preference. For example, if you love animals you may want to stay at the Animal Kingdom's lodge. If you love the outdoors then you may prefer to rough it in the campground.

Step 5

Pick which Disney theme parks you want to visit. There are four major parks: Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Epcot and Disney's Hollywood Studios Theme Park. You can visit one, two, three or all four.

Step 6

Plan on any additional attractions, such as one of the two water parks, shopping at Downtown Disney, or Disney's Wild World of Sports Complex. You will need extra time if you want to go to any of these.

Step 7

Book your trip either online or through a travel agent. A travel agent may be a wise choice since they know about deals that are not posted online. You can also be specific in exactly what you want to do and have the travel agent make all the arrangements.

Step 8

Pay the down payment for your trip and then continue making payments until the trip is paid in full.
