Step 1

Decide on the best time to visit Pigeon Forge. Spring and summer are great options if you want to take advantage of the outdoor activities that are prevalent throughout the city. If you want to take in the beauty of the area, you might want to go in autumn, when leaves will be changing and looking beautiful. Winter is not the best time because you'd be traveling during a potentially treacherous time in the mountains.

Step 2

Use a website such as mypigeonforge.com to locate a hotel for your stay. Pigeon Forge has many hotels along the main road, which takes you through Sevierville and Gatlinburg as well. Any of these hotels will be convenient and most are surprisingly affordable. If you decide to book a hotel in Gatlinburg, you can find some in the mountains that offer an incredible view. Have your credit card handy when you book your room, and make your reservations in advance.

Step 3

Because there is so much to do in Pigeon Forge and the two surrounding cities, you may want to plan some must-see activities. Along the main street, you'll find many entertainment options such as miniature golf courses, 3-D movies, video arcades and other venues that will appeal to younger members of your group or to families. If this appeals to you, leave some time open to explore these features of Pigeon Forge.

Step 4

Set aside time for Dollywood. One of the most popular attractions in Pigeon Forge is Dollywood amusement park. The park contains roller coasters, lots of water rides, and good foods and shows. If you are staying in Pigeon Forge for a few days, you have several options for visiting this attraction. If you go after 5 pm one day, you can get a half-price ticket for the second full day. Going later in the day is a good way to hit the more popular rides. You can also save money by buying a combined ticket for Dollywood and the adjacent water park.

Step 5

Finding your way around Pigeon Forge isn't difficult, but you will need a map to find your way to this part of Tennessee. While having an atlas or a fold-up map of Tennessee or the southern United States is a good idea, you should print instructions from your home to the hotel using Yahoo or Google maps. These services are free and are usually accurate.
