When planning a vacation in Louisiana, people commonly think of the partying atmosphere of New Orleans nightlife. The entire state of Louisiana is proud of its heritage and local culture. There are many places that are waiting to share the rich history and unique landscape with visitors.
Lafayette

Located in south central Louisiana, an hour west of Baton Rouge, is the city of Lafayette. Visitors to the area will experience real Cajun cooking, Zydeco music and historic attractions that are meaningful to the Cajun culture. The town of Lafayette welcomes visitors to the many festivals that are held there throughout the year. The annual Festival Acadiens et Creoles is an event where visitors can learn to dance the traditional waltz, dine on Cajun food and browse through the booths of local craftsmen.

New Orleans Area

Experience the charm of south Louisiana by venturing outside the city limits of New Orleans. Tucked away along the banks of the Mississippi River, visitors to the area can tour historic plantations, embark on a swamp tour or dine at one of the many local restaurants. One of Louisiana's most recognized plantations is Oak Alley, located only 53 miles from New Orleans. Just across the river from New Orleans, is the Jean Lafitte Swamp Tour, one of many which offer tourists a ride on an airboat through the bayous of the area.

Shreveport-Bossier City

Located in the north east part of the state, Shreveport-Bossier City area offers visitors a variety of family activities, museums and casinos. Barksdale Air Force Base hosts an air show each summer. Visitors to the area museums can browse through places such as Spring Street Historical Museum which holds artifacts from the Civil War. Stage of Stars and Legends Museum is the building where Elvis Presley's career in music began.
Shreveport-Bossier City is also home to five riverboat casinos and a horse racing track for visitors who wish to try their luck at gaming.
