Kansas City may be known for its world-famous barbecue, but a number of the pizza oven restaurants do a great job of combining Mid-Western hospitality with top-notch food. The appeal isn't just the quality pizza -- and let's be honest, who can turn down a tasty pie -- but the friendly atmosphere at a place that makes you feel as if you're amongst friends.
Pizza Shoppe

One of the oldest pizza joints in Kansas City, Pizza Shoppe was founded by Dick Ryan in 1967. Ryan set out to not only make a quality pizza, but to create a cozy neighborhood hangout that everyone would enjoy. Pizza Shoppe is decorated with memorabilia from local sports heroes, and some not so local, that give the shop and its patrons a feel of civic pride.

The sauces and crusts are made fresh daily, and there's oven-baked pastas and sandwiches to choose from on the menu as well. With 22 locations in the Greater Kansas City area, Kansas side included, Pizza Shoppe is a regional favorite. And don't forget to ask about the famous "Pink Stuff" salad dressing.

The Dish

While the Dish also features burgers, sandwiches, a takeout menu, party packs and fundraiser pizzas, probably the coolest thing about this small business done well is you can buy the Dish frozen pizzas in over 50 grocers in the metro-area.
