Pechanga's exterior
Located in Temecula, California, Pechanga is an Indian casino that is run by the Band of Luiseno Indians. Though its close proximity to Temecula's wine country, modern rooms and lovely pool area are all nice, Pechanga is mostly known for its 188,000-square-foot gaming floor. It's the biggest in California, and it shows. The tables and slots are almost always moderately full, and the walkways are normally bustling.
Wows and Woes
Wows: Pechanga's sleek design and state-of-the-art facilities make you forget you're in an Indian casino and not Las Vegas.
Woes: The buffet is not very good, and it can be difficult to get on the machine or table that you want because the casino is always so crowded.
Insider Tips
If you're planning to gamble, do it during the week, preferably in the morning. Though the older demographic, which is significant at Pechanga, will still be out and about, you won't have to compete with as many tourists and locals during these times. Be sure to venture away from the property as well to explore Temecula's large wine country. While you're there, grab dinner, as the food is a bit lacking at Pechanga.
Author's Most Memorable Moment
I attended the first-annual Pechanga Wine Festival here. Although I had visited Pechanga a few years back, I was surprised by how large, clean and well-designed it was. The entire staff was very friendly and efficient. The event, not to mention every other service I used, ran smoothly. I was also surprised by some of the famous acts the casino was able to book.
Bottom Line
If you're in the area and into gambling definitely stop by. It's also perfect for weekend retreats even if you're not into gambling, but simply like nice resorts.
