North Conway, New Hampshire Tourism

North Conway is located within the Mount Washington Valley in the heart of the White Mountains of New Hampshire. The popular tourist town is filled with restaurants, motels and outlet stores. The immediate vicinity consists of the White Mountain National Forest, making this town very popular with outdoor enthusiasts. Fall foliage and an abundant winter snowfall have helped make North Conway a four-season destination.
Summit of Mount Washington

Located nearby is Mount Washington, which has an auto road, a cog railway and numerous hiking trails that lead to the summit. At the top, there is a gift shop, small restaurant and weather station that has recorded the highest wind speed on the planet of more than 230 mph.

Visit a Ski Resort

Ski areas are all over the White Mountains, but there is the Cranmore Ski Mountain, located at the edge of town. In summer, visitors can drive up Hurricane Ridge, which runs near the top of the mountain, and sample one of the many hiking trails.

Drive the Kanc

The Kancamagus Highway, locally referred to as the Kanc, begins south of town and goes through the heart of some very spectacular wilderness. The twisting two-lane highway ends in Lincoln. In the summer, the Swift River, which parallels part of the highway, is a popular swimming place.

Conway Scenic Railroad

The Conway Railway has a station in North Conway, where you can board a train that climbs to Crawford Notch. The Notch train is a summer-fall operation that is popular with visitors.

Fall Foliage

One can stay in town to view the fall foliage. The view of the surrounding mountains is extraordinary, with the peak colors occurring about Columbus Day.
