Magical any time of year, but even more so at Christmas, New York sparkles with a plethora of fun, memorable and entertaining ideas for holiday merrymaking, big city style. Fortunately, you can save your pennies for holiday shopping because many of the events are totally free.
Fifth Avenue Window Displays
For generations, the shopkeepers in New York City have made an art of creating spectacular window displays, attracting crowds of every age, nationality and occupation to their storefronts. Participating merchants include Lord & Taylor, Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue, Barneys New York and Bloomingdales. It costs nothing to look.
Holiday Train Show
At Grand Central Station, a Christmas train extravaganza thrills and delights kids of every age. The event is free and runs from Thanksgiving through the first of the year. Grand Central also hosts a Kaleidoscope Light Show on its famous Sky Ceiling.

Relive the best moments from the film "Miracle on 34th Street" with a visit to Macy's Santa Claus at Herald Square. From Thanksgiving through Christmas, Santa is ready to have kids climb on his lap and whisper their Christmas wishes.
