New York City offers an almost endless array of activities for children of all ages. While most visitors stay within the limits of Manhattan and visit some of the most classic museums, there are lots of things for families to do in every borough, much of which is highly unexplored and waiting to be discovered.
Puppetworks

Puppetworks is a nonprofit organization and theater offering renditions of some of the most famous fairy tales, such as "Sleeping Beauty," performed through hand-carved marionettes and puppets. Open performances are held only on weekends at Puppetworks' original space in Brooklyn, although midweek performances are often presented for those coming with a group or by appointment.vPuppet workshops and demonstrations are available, and performances are often adapted to fit the age of those attending.

Brooklyn Children's Museum

Since about 1899, the museum has grown and evolved with the times, always offering a great combination of science, nature and active pursuits. The museum's main exhibits include "Neighborhood Nature," including a garden, a pond, waterfalls and sandy dunes; "World Brooklyn," in which you can visit everything from a Mexican bakery to a Lunar New Year celebration; and "Collections Central," with interactive displays and rotating objects from the museum's 30,000-item collection.

Alley Pond Environmental Center

Alley Pond is a real treat in New York City. Not only a park but also an authentic environmental center and protected space, this is a great destination for the whole family. Located in Douglaston, Queens, the center stretches for more than 150 acres and offers countless opportunities for hiking, bird watching and exploring. Aside from the many ponds, streams and forestlike environments, the center also offers workshops for children, including tracking classes, craft seminars and wilderness day trips.
