New Hampshire Ski Resort Reviews

Mount Washington/Bretton Woods and Loon Mountain in New Hampshire offer lots of trails without big crowds. One reason is remoteness; hours from Boston, further from New York City and no major airports. Another is the cold. You must dress warmly, but you will be rewarded with varied terrain and gorgeous views.
Wows and Woes

Wows
Loon Mountain got well over 200 inches of snow in the winter of 2008-09. You have an excellent chance of fresh tracks.
Woes
One time at Bretton Woods, it was below zero degrees F the whole time, at the base. The summit was much, much colder--and icy.

Insider Tips

Bring a box of hand and feet warmers. They are much less expensive to buy at home, and you will need them.

Author's Most Memorable Moment

My teen was skiing alone and a handsome ski patrol brought her in, telling me she had to wear more clothing since it was so cold. She actually listened to him and got a full-face ski mask and extra base layer.

Bottom Line

Loon Mountain and Bretton Woods are for serious East Coast skiers. You won't have to wait a long time on a lift line.
