New York. Many consider the Falls one of the wonders of the world.
Maid of the Mist History
Maid of the Mist is a historical half-hour boat ride around the Falls. The adventure has been in business since 1846. The Maid of the Mist Steamship Co. is privately owned.
Departures
Tours on the Maid of the Mist boat rides depart from Ontario at the bottom of Clifton Hill. Departures from the American side are at the entrance to the observation tower at Niagara Falls.
Rates, Dates and Times
Rates and times are subject to change. As of August 2009, tours usually run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. During the summer, tours will sometimes run as late as 9 p.m. Tours are a half hour and operate from late April to late October, weather permitting.
The Boat
Two Maid of the Mist boats, Maid VI and Maid VII, depart every 15 minutes. They are 600-passenger boats, 80 feet long with two 350-horsepower engines.
The Tour
The tour takes passengers around the roaring and thundering Niagara Falls. A recyclable souvenir waterproof raincoat is provided.
The Maid of the Mist Plaza
On the Canadian side sits the Maid of the Mist Plaza. It includes gift shops, a food outlet, a welcome center and boat ticket office. Live entertainment takes place daily during the summer.
