Lakes in Maryland to Row Boats
Maryland is home to some of the best lakes and recreational parks in the nation. The state has made a name for itself by promoting positive ecological and conservation issues regarding land and water. Rowers and boaters wishing to use any of Maryland's many lakes or recreational parks will find that they are meticulously managed, and should commit themselves to keeping them in the same condition.
Liberty Reservoir
Liberty Reservoir, also known as Liberty Lake, is part of the Chesapeake Bay watershed. The lake is restricted to battery-operated motors and manual boats, making it ideal for rowboats, paddleboats, kayaks and canoes. For additional activities while boating, the lake is considered a superb fishery as well. For more information, visit the Lake Lubbers website.
Lake Habeeb
Lake Habeeb is located inside Rocky Gap State Park. The lake runs for 23 acres along one of the world's oldest mountain ranges. Gas-powered boats are prohibited, but visitors are free to use the lake for rowing, canoeing, kayaking, paddling and rafting. The park offers rental boats to visitors, and access to the lake is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Visitors who want to go boating after dark are required to have navigational lights. The park offers camping facilities to boaters and visitors who wish to camp, as well as additional land amenities.
Broadford Lake Park
Broadford Lake is a well-stocked fishery in Garrett County, just outside Mountain Lake Park. Besides fishing, visitors can partake in manual watercraft activities such as rowing, canoeing, kayaking and sail boarding. The lake has restricted non-manual boats to electric trolling usage only; gasoline motors are prohibited. Broadford Lake is considered a flat-water lake and runs for 140 acres. The park offers a boat launch and docks to visitors, as well as other land amenities, such as a beach and picnic area. Rental boats are available at the concession stand. The lake is open every day from March 31 through November 15, starting at 9 a.m. For further information, call (301) 334-2691.
