Lake Tahoe Vacations for Kids
Lake Tahoe is a major
resort area located along the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California and Nevada. The resort in centered around a 200 square mile lake that is among the largest and deepest freshwater lakes in the country. Families flock to the area year-round for skiing, water sports and outdoor activities. While much of the emphasis is on activities for adults, there is plenty to keep the kids busy as well. They can attend day camps, take a sleigh ride, or simply enjoy swimming and playing on the
beach. Best of all, parents can choose to take part in many of these activities, or they can simply let the kids take part while the adults pursue other interests.

Summer Camp
The Lake Tahoe Kids Camp offers programs ranging from a single half day experience to a week-long overnight camp. This is a great way to give the kids a special experience of their own during a family trip to the area. Many visitors sign up for the day or evening program, where kids can participate in gymnastics, rock climbing, swimming, water sports and team games. Girls and boys ages 5 to 14 are welcome to attend, and sessions run from early June through September. Special events include luaus, plays, talent shows and themed parties. Children can learn about nature and science while having fun and meeting new friends.

Winter Activities
Skiiing Lake Tahoe
The Lake Tahoe region features dozens of ski resorts, though Heavenly Mountain is the largest, with 4,800 square acres of skiable area. Because of its mountain location, guests are able to enjoy a long ski season, generally lasting from November until May. Heavenly features an array of kid's programs, from half-day ski classes to week long camps. Kids can learn to ski and snowboard under the care of instructors trained to work with children. Programs are available for kids ages 5 to 13, and an indoor play camp is available for younger children. In the evenings, kids will enjoy ice skating, sledding or taking a dog sled or horse-drawn carriage ride.

Summer Activities
Sunrise on the Lake
Lake Tahoe is a popular spot for family vacations in the summer. Kids will enjoy playing on its sandy beaches, swimming in the warm water, or participating in water sports with their families. Boating and canoeing are popular, as are kayaking and water skiing. Campsites surround the lake, ranging from primitive plots of land to real log cabins that are equipped with modern conveniences. Many children will enjoy fishing on the lake, or taking a gondola ride up the mountains for a nature hike. A summer trip to Lake Tahoe will bring the whole family back to nature, and give kids a chance for some old-fashioned fun.
