Lake Powell Information
Lake Powell is located in south-central Utah and crosses over into north-central Arizona. It was formed by the completion of the Glen Canyon Dam in 1962, and features 2,000 miles of shoreline. Lake Powell is a mecca for houseboaters and also features several miles of trails for those more inclined to explore the terrain by foot or mountain bicycle.
Getting There
The 186-mile long Lake Powell is best reached by personal vehicle. The nearest major cities to Lake Powell are Las Vegas (267 miles to Wahweap), Salt Lake City (296 miles to Bullfrog), and Phoenix (280 miles to Wahweap).
Houseboat Rental
Lake Powell is a popular destination for houseboaters. Houseboat rentals offered by the Lake Powell resorts & Marinas range from 46-foot Expedition Class standard-class houseboats to 75-foot Excursion luxury houseboats. Rental rates vary by season, rental length and size of boat.
RV Parks and Campgrounds
Lake Powell is also surrounded by three RV parks and campgrounds for those uninterested in renting a houseboat.
Boat/Water Equipment Rental
Powerboats, jet skis, kayaks, waterskis, tubes and other watersport equipment are available for daily rental from the Lake Powell Resorts & Marinas.
Activities
Though watersports are the main draw at Lake Powell, other recreational opportunities include hiking, mountain biking and climbing. Most land-based recreational opportunities require taking a boat shuttle across the lake.
Cruises
Boat tours and dinner cruises are also offered by Lake Powell Resorts & Marinas. Boat tours range from 1.5 hours to day-long excursions.
