View of Main Beach from Laguna Shores
The seaside destination of Laguna
beach attracts visitors with its quaint charm and expansive
beaches in a Riviera-like setting. Home to the world-renown Festival of Arts and Sawdust Festival, Laguna Beach has long been known as an artists' colony. Located on the cliffs above Main Beach, Laguna Shores is conveniently situated near the heart of the action, within walking distance to nearby shops, museums, restaurants, cafes and, of course, beaches. The casual and intimate setting includes a swimming pool, fitness room, gas barbecues and free wireless Internet access in the lobby. Well-manicured gardens with brick walkways add to the enchantment.
Wows and Woes
Wows: The hotel's friendly staff makes you feel like family, while the views of Main Beach and Heisler Park are first rate.
Woes: Outdated room furnishings seem stuck in the '80s.
Insider Tips
Avoid the summer months when crowds are thick and the traffic is crawling. The best time of year to visit Laguna Beach is September and October.
Author's Most Memorable Moment
Each morning at dawn, we got up early to jog along the beach below our hotel. After our run, we stopped at the nearby Dietrich's for coffee and muffins before heading back to our hotel where we'd shower and change for our next adventure.
Bottom Line
Even though the room decor was surprisingly commonplace for a hotel in the heart of an artists' colony, Laguna Shores presents panoramic views, a convenient location and sterling hospitality.
