Information on Hawaiian Volcanoes

The Hawaiian islands were formed by underwater volcanoes that erupted, and a number of volcanoes can still be found in Hawaii. There are volcanoes on the major islands of Hawaii, which include Maui, Oahu, Lanai, Kauai, Molokai and the Big Island Hawaii.
Kilauea and Mauna Loa Volcanoes

Kilauea and Mauna Loa are active volcanoes on the Big Island. Kilauea has been erupting continuously since 1983, and it is thought to be 210 to 500 years old. Mauna Loa last erupted in 1984. It is estimated to be 600 to 750 years old.

Mauna Kea

Mauna Kea is a dormant volcano on the Big Island. The volcano lasted erupted about 4,500 years ago, and it is believed to be more than 1 million years old.

Lanai Volcano

Located on the island of Lanai, the Lanai Volcano is an extinct volcano that last erupted 1.2 million years ago.

West Maui

West Maui is an extinct volcano located in Maui. It last erupted 385,000 years ago after being dormant for 500,000 years.

Kauai Volcano

Located on the island of Kauai, Kauai is the third-largest volcano in Hawaii. It last erupted 520,000 years ago.

Waianae Volcano

Waianae is an extinct volcano. It is one of the oldest volcanoes in Hawaii. It lasted erupted 2.4 million years ago.
