The Howard Johnson Express in Geneva, Ohio, offers guests free wireless Internet, a swimming pool and complimentary breakfast.
The rooms are very plain in terms of decor but serve the purpose of a clean and comfortable place to spend a night. The hotel also features a conference room for business meetings.
Wows and Woes
Wows: The pool is nice in a hotel that is otherwise barren of amenities. It's a great way to unwind after a day of golf or at the vineyards.
Woes: There is not much nearby in the way of food, and there is no restaurant on-site, just breakfast.
Insider Tips
There are several wineries near the hotel. Ferrante Winery, which is less than a mile away was the best of the bunch that I saw, offering samples and great prices. Be sure to bring a bottle back to enjoy by the hotel pool.
Author's Most Memorable Moment
The most memorable moment for me was enjoying a couple of bottles of wine from Ferrante poolside at the hotel. The pool was spacious enough that I wasn't bothered by the large family that was also there. It made for a relaxing experience.
Bottom Line
Prices at this Howard Johnson are low, which is good for a hotel that won't blow you away with its features.
