Las Vegas Hilton
The
Las Vegas Hilton is a huge, classic hotel easily recognized by its triangular shape and distinctive sign that is the largest of its kind in the world. It has a storied history stretching back to 1969. Barbara Streisand and Elvis Presley were the first two headliners to perform here. It was the home of the "Star Trek Experience" exhibit from 1998 until 2008. The Las Vegas Casino was also the location of several tragic events, including a 1981 fire that killed eight people and the 1991 Navy Tailhook Association scandal.
Features
The Las Vegas Hilton is the largest hotel in the worldwide Hilton chain. It has 3,174 rooms and contains a 100,000-square-foot casino. The street address of the Las Vegas Hilton is 3000 Paradise Road. This places it one long block east of the northern end of the Las Vegas Strip. The hotel is next to the massive Las Vegas Convention Center, but not near other major Las Vegas casinos. The Las Vegas Hilton is one of the oldest casino hotels in the city. It does not have a specific theme, like other casinos. Instead, its characteristics are reminiscent of classic Las Vegas.
Pros and Cons
Since the Las Vegas Hilton is located off the Strip, it is not within walking distance to other casinos, and some guests will see this as a negative. It has been renovated several times since its construction in 1969, so it always has fresh furnishings, carpet and paint. However, the architecture is from another era. The rooms tend to be smaller, the lobby is functional rather than welcoming and the pools are unimpressive. That said, it is easier to get a room there during busy times, and prices are reasonable for a high-rise luxury hotel. The Las Vegas Hilton also has a huge casino and the biggest sports book in town. It is a good place to gamble if you don't like crowds.
Bottom Line
The Las Vegas Hilton is a good choice if you need a reasonably priced room close to, but not on, the Las Vegas Strip. It is not the best choice if you want to be in the middle of the action, since it is in a somewhat remote location. It is also a poor choice if you want the most modern and impressive accommodations for your stay. It feels very much like a well-maintained older hotel. It is a good choice for visitors in town for a convention at the Las Vegas Convention Center who need easy access to their rooms.
