Sault Ste Marie is not just the oldest city in Michigan, but one of the oldest in the country. First settled by Native Americans over 2,000 years ago, the area has been ruled by many nations before finally being settled and renamed in 1668 by Jacques Marquette. The check-in time is 4 p.m. and check-out is 11 a.m. The hotel is pet-friendly on the first two floors, but there is a pet fee. The hotel has 97 rooms and five suites on five floors; 88 are non-smoking. The hotel has 26 rooms with one bed and 71 rooms with two beds.
Location
Just seconds from Lake Superior State University and St. Mary's river, this Holiday Inn Express is just miles from it's sister city, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Also near the hotel is DonDee Bowling Lanes and the Chippewa County Airport. The area around the hotel is suburban, and it is just one and a half miles from the center of town.
Rooms
The hotel offers regular guest rooms with cable TV, coffee maker, mini-fridge, Wi-Fi, hairdryer and whirlpools in the room are available upon request. Executive Club Level rooms offer all of the regular room's amenities along with a microwave oven and windows that open. The suites offer all of the previously listed amenities along with a separate living area, a sofa bed and a fully-stocked kitchenette with plates, glasses and silverware.
Amenities
The hotel offers a fitness room, renovated in 2009, with a TV, water cooler, treadmill, StairMaster and stationary bike. They have an indoor pool with a whirlpool, a game room, business center, tour desk and safe deposit boxes at the front desk.
Dining
The hotel offers a free complimentary breakfast with muffins, cereal, toast and bagels. As for lunch and dinner, they can recommend a few restaurants near by for anything from Italian to Irish, and there are 30 bars in the area for nightly entertainment.
