United States in 1912 as the 48th state. Copper is a strong focus in Arizona's economy, along with tourism and manufacturing. Visitors to the state enjoy breweries and casinos as well as the state's natural beauty.
Why the Grand Canyon State?
The Grand Canyon extends for 227 miles. The distance from side-to-side ranges from four to 18 miles, and the depth of the Grand Canyon averages 5,000 feet. This natural wonder is the main tourist attraction in Arizona.
Weather
Bring water and wear light colored clothing in Arizona. The heat reaches extreme highs, particularly in the summer.
Why Visit?
Arizona contains a diverse collection of attractions from touring breweries to viewing dinosaur bones. Natural beauty from the Grand Canyon and the rich history from miners and Native Americans create a fun and unique experience.
Driving
Service stations tend to be few, and are good distances from each other. Maintain a full gas tank and check other fluid levels regularly. Livestock roam freely in Arizona, so be aware when driving, particularly at night.
Native Americans in Arizona
Arizona has an active Native American culture. Call before visiting them, and learn their customs ahead of time. Photography, sketching, audio and visual recording of the events or people requires diplomacy.
