The Golden Nugget is often cited as being the best of Downtown
Las Vegas for good reason. A consistent winner of AAA's Four Diamond award, the property offers well-furnished and comfortable rooms, the Gordie Brown variety show, the Gold Diggers nightclub overlooking the Fremont Street Experience, an amazing pool called The Tank and fine dining at Vic & Anthony's Steakhouse.
Wows and Woes
Wows
The buffet is one of the best bargains in town, and the excellent bread pudding is served all day.
Woes
The walk to the standard rooms in the South Tower from the front of the property is quite a hike.
Insider Tips
Try to get an upgrade to the North Tower if possible. The rooms are a little nicer and the location is much better. Be sure to sign up for the players club as new members get to spin some reels for some free slot play.
Author's Most Memorable Moment
The Golden Nugget pool, otherwise known as The Tank.
My wife wanted to stay at the Golden Nugget for the pool, and we were not disappointed. Swimming up to the tank and standing just a few inches of plexiglass away from sharks was quite an experience, as was riding the water slide that goes through the center of the tank. This is definitely the best pool in Las Vegas for families.
Bottom Line
The Golden Nugget is the place to stay on Fremont Street. It provides the same amenities as the more well-known properties on the Strip at a much cheaper price.
