Tasty wraps are among the gluten-free options for Norfolk area diners.
If you are gluten intolerant and traveling to the Norfolk, Virginia, area, relax. There are plenty of places that sell foods you can eat. Not only will you be able to shop for your favorite gluten-free ingredients, you even will be able to dine out. Here are some restaurants and shops in the Norfolk area that sell gluten-free products.
Pasha Mezze
Pasha Mezze offers a complete menu of vegetarian, vegan, organic and gluten-free selections. You will have to specify that you want "gluten-free" when ordering off the lunch menu, but the chef is prepared with special versions of sandwich wraps with fish, beans, veggies or lamb prepared in gluten-free sauces. The dinner menu has a much more extensive selection of gluten-free meals, including lentil soup, grilled marinated chicken strips or skewers, lamb and rice or lamb with hummus. They also have a full seafood menu that is gluten-free, including marinated shrimp, salmon and mixed seafood platters served with kale or garden greens. Complement your entree with sauteed julienne vegetables, seasoned wedged potatoes or jasmine rice.

Outback Steakhouse
Rejoice, gluten-intolerant meat lovers! Outback Steakhouse now has a full menu of gluten-free meals just for you. With dishes like flame-grilled chicken breasts smothered in mushrooms, bacon and cheddar cheese, Aussie style baby back ribs in a tangy BBQ sauce, New Zealand rack of lamb in a Cabernet wine sauce and served with garlic mashed potatoes and fresh veggies on the side or a roasted fillet drizzled in a Port wine mushroom sauce, you may wish to return to Outback night after night while on your vacation. There is also an extensive seafood selection, including lobster tails, Atlantic salmon, King Crab legs and shrimp. Not only is the special menu packed with yummy descriptions and pictures of these special-order gluten-free choices, there are highlighted alerts to let you know which items on the menu (such as french fries and some salad dressings) may contain gluten and should be avoided. They even suggest substitutions for each item.

Whole Foods Market offers a wide supply of gluten-free ingredients and foods that will satisfy the most discriminating taste buds. Their on-site bakery creates fresh gluten-free breads, pastas and pies daily, and their deli chefs prepare a number of healthy, holistic gluten-free meals that are ready to eat. They are so dedicated to providing safe, alternative menus and baked products for their customers that they even have a special, gluten-free kitchen and bakery to ensure that there is no cross-contamination of foods and a staff whose job is to test gluten-free products and make sure they qualify. They are a little pricier than your average grocer, but if you want to be sure your foods are absolutely gluten-free, as well as tasty, it's worth the extra few bucks you might spend.
