Highland, Illinois, is situated just 30 miles east of
St. Louis, Missouri, and has a population of about 9,433 residents. While Highland may not have many restaurants that are located directly in the town it does have many German restaurants close to it in surrounding towns.

The St. Louis Gast Haus is a German restaurant that was started by sisters Ann Sueme and Maritza Stock and Maritza's husband Bill Stock. The sisters created the restaurant to be reminiscent preWorld War II Europe. The Gast Haus has a menu that consists of a variety of different foods such as potato pancakes, sauerbrauten, red cabbage, cold Warsteiner, and various German beers.

Dreamland Palace
The Dreamland Palace was originally built in 1875 and served as a tavern, dance hall and general store. The Dreamland Palace serves lunch and dinner in a German atmosphere. The traditional German specialties that are served include sauerbraten, wienerschnitzel, schweinebraten, as well as chicken, seafood, steak and shrimp.
