Dark wheat bread is a staple of German cuisine.
Knoxville is on the Eastern part of the state of Tennessee and has an approximate population of 183,000 people according to bestplaces.net. Knoxville is a popular tourist and visitors destination due to its plethora of music varieties and venues, historical attractions, shopping and outdoor activities. Currently, there are only two restaurants that offer authentic German food to patrons. These two restaurants can be found in various reaches of Knoxville. There is also an annual German Festival in the latter part of October that allows attendee's to experience true German snacks and cuisines.
Linderhof Restaurant
The Linderhof Restaurant is located in the Southwestern part of Knoxville, on the Kingston Pike. The Linderhof is the most popular German restaurant in Knoxville and is widely known for is famous and delicious cuisine. The Linderhof exudes an authentic German ambiance in accordance to German customs. With a serving staff adorned by Lederhosen and a roving accordion player, patrons get the entire feel of a German Atmosphere. The menu is as eclectic as the atmosphere, with menu items such as the popular Linderhof wiener schnitzel, spatzle, traditional German bar food, and a wide assortment of German beers. Sauerkraut is recommended with any dish and you won't find ketchup on much of anything.
The Little Dutch
Though the name is Little Dutch, there is much ado with regard to German offerings. The Little Dutch is a quaint, yet vibrant establishment on the Northeastern most part of Knoxville only blocks from the Knoxville Country Club. With limited, yet unique menu items, the Little Dutch provides a sophisticated delivery into some aspects of German influence with their dishes. The salad and soups are derived from common Deutschland land ingredients and offer an experience of new tastes. The beef-kabob and homemade baklava are exceptional and a fan favorite. The Little Dutch offers much of what German food seekers hope for and is sure to satisfy the Bavarian palate.
German Fest
Though the annual German Fest is not an actual restaurant, it is however an opportunity to experience an authentic venue of German cuisine and snacks in a great part of Knoxville. Every year in the latter part of October, the First Lutheran Church of Knoxville hosts a German themed festival with a variety of German foods, music and activities true to German and Dutch traditions. This event is an extremely great way to sample and experience Germany in Knoxville.
