Galveston, Texas is a city on Galveston Island in the Texas Gulf Coast. The city is a popular tourist destination in the state because of its many fun and beautiful tourist attractions, including gardens, amusement parks, historical buildings and museums. For visitors in Galveston, Texas, there is no shortage of fun things to see and do.
Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark
The Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark is one of the city's top tourist attractions and is full of fun and exciting rides and entertainment options. From water coasters and wave pools to whitewater rapids and playgrounds for children, there is no shortage of cool, fun and refreshing things to do and see at Schlitterbahn. There are over 32 attractions available at this vast waterpark. Also be sure to check out the park's innovative river system, known as "Trainsportation."
Moody Gardens
Moody Gardens is another one of the most popular Galveston tourist attractions. It spans 242 acres and has a lot of interesting features, such as a Rainforest Pyramid that is ten stories high, a massive bat exhibit, a Discovery Pyramid that is full of interactive displays and exhibits, and an IMAX Ridefilm Theater (that has an exciting adventure ride). There is also an Aquarium Pyramid (one of the world's biggest) that has 100,000 square feet of aquatic life displays.
Galveston County Historical Museum
The Galveston County Historical Museum is excellent for learning about Galveston's rich history. There are many exhibits on topics including the lighthouses of the city, Native Americans who inhabited the island, and the storm that took over the town in the year 1900. This museum used to be the City National Bank, which was constructed by W.L. Moody back in 1919, and then given to the city by his daughter in the mid-1970s. This is an intriguing museum to learn about the city's cultural heritage and past.
Stewart Beach
Stewart beach in Galveston is one of the city's most popular family beach areas. The beach has a playground for children, an outdoor pavilion (with a bath house, restrooms, souvenir store and snack bar) and volleyball courts. There are always a lot of fun events going on at Stewart Beach, such as volleyball tournaments and sandcastle building contests. If you want to relax, go swimming or even have a picnic, Stewart Beach is a fun place to visit.
Lone Star Flight Museum
The Lone Star Flight Museum is located right next to both the Galveston Airport and Moody Gardens. This museum has one of the nation's finest aviation and aircraft displays. There are over forty restored airplanes on display, and most of them are still in good working order. The museum's collection includes executive planes, World War II fighters, liaison trainers, bombers and much more.
