Adler Planetarium and Astronomy Museum

Discover the winter sky at the Adler Planetarium and Astronomy Museum. The museum, which features two full-size planetarium theaters, offers exhibits such as "Shoot for the Moon," and "Telescopes, Through the Looking Glass." Other permanent exhibits include "Our Solar System" and "Milky Way Galaxy."

Shedd Aquarium

Stay warm while exploring the Shedd Aquarium, which features several diverse exhibits. The Oceanarium showcases beluga whales, dolphins and sea lions, among other sea life. Learn about eels, green sea turtles, parrotfish and shark in the "Caribbean Reef" exhibit, a 90,000-gallon circular habitat. Other exhibits include "Fantasea," "Polar Play Zone" and "Waters of the World."

Chicago Botanic Garden

Escape the cold weather at the Chicago Botanic Garden, which features 23 gardens set on 385 acres. The garden blooms year-round, and offers a welcome respite for winter-weary locals and tourists. Exhibits include a rose garden, an English walled garden and a water garden; arid and tropical greenhouses are also available.

Millennium Park Ice Skating Rink

Go ice skating at the Millennium Park Ice Skating Rink, which is outdoors and features piped-in music. Non-skaters can watch the action while sitting on benches, which line the rink. The downtown rink is open from November through March, and rental skates are available.
