Fun Family Vacations in Ohio

Ohio is a midwestern state that shares part of Lake Erie. While this state is mostly known for its industrial sector, there is more to it than the factories that dot some of the horizon. This state is home to a plethora of wonderful family getaways with plenty of things to do.
Sandusky, Ohio

Sandusky, on the banks of Lake Erie, offers swimming, boating, water-skiing, golfing and amusements parks.

This area is home to Cedar Point, which has the distinction as having more roller coasters than any other amusement park in the country. Sandusky also offers two golf courses, tennis and racquetball courses, two state-owned nature reserves (which are perfect for hiking), and beaches for swimming and sunbathing.

Hocking Hills State Park

Hocking Hills State Park offers families more then 2,300 acres of parkland with 26 miles of hiking trails, fishing, picnicking, a seasonal restaurant and pool, and more than 150 campsites and 40 air conditioned cabins. The campsites come equipped with heated showers, flush toilets, swimming pool, volleyball court and horseshoe pit. The cottages sleep up to six people in two bedrooms, and feature complete kitchens, baths with shower and screened-in porches.

The hiking trails range from easy (for those with small children) to 1 mile difficult hikes. Children can participate in summer programs

For those who want to hone their skills, there is archery range, and during the winter, ice fishing is allowed.

Mad River Mountain

Mad River Mountain, northwest of Colunbus, is a ski resort that offers 18 different slopes of varying difficulties, and a tubing park. The new tubing park features 10 chutes, each 900 feet long, which allow people to slide down the mountain in giant inner tubes. The resort offers a race program for skiers of all levels.
