Where to Fish for Halibut in Deep Creek, Alaska

Alaska is home to several types and species of fish including salmon, but halibut are by far the most popular. These fish live in the wild and in fish hatcheries maintained by the state of Alaska. The fish are abundant throughout the year, particularly in the right spots. These fish are often found in the southern area of the state and along the shoreline.
Cook Inlet

The Cook Inlet is a popular place in Deep Creek for halibut fishing. This small area can be quite crowded during the summer months but is less crowded in the early spring and early fall. This area is part of the Gulf of Alaska, and accessing the inlet is fairly easy. Fishermen can fish directly from the pier or venture further into the water.

Deep Creek Mouth

The mouth of Deep Creek is one of the better places for halibut fishing in Deep Creek. Halibut are creatures of habit and prefer sticking close to the shoreline and in the shallow water, both of which are found at the mouth of Deep Creek. This is a good spot also because the water rushing by cools down the surrounding waters and halibut prefer colder water.

Nushagak River

The Nushagak River is so popular that fishing charters and private guides often use it on their trips with visitors and tourists. In the early part of spring, around April and May, the halibut population here rises substantially. It's possible for even the most novice of fishermen to catch several halibut here, ranging in size from 25 to 35 pounds.

Kenai River

The Kenai River has a high halibut population, but it's a difficult area to navigate because of the river's size. Beginner fishermen and those unfamiliar with the area are better off using an expert guide from the area or taking a private charter. The halibut here are plentiful in the sandy areas along the shore and in any places with a large amount of shade, such as a patch of water under a group of trees.
