Carefully staged exhibits recreate the thoughtful presence of our nation's 16th president.

Just outside of Springfield is the Village of New Salem, a reconstructed historic site where Lincoln lived for six years and worked as a clerk, surveyor and lawyer. With quaint log homes and shops, the site gives the flavor of the 1830s. Don't miss the regularly scheduled special events and craft demonstrations that are put on by volunteers in period costume. The site's visitor center provides both obscure and well-known information on Lincoln's life.
