Family Vacation Ideas East Coast
If you're looking for some ideas for your family vacation
, consider making the east coast your destination. Steeped in history and brimming with entertainment, there are endless possibilities that will guarantee a memorable trip. Whether touring historical battlefields and forts or screaming at a water park, an east coast vacation will leave your family begging to return.
The Wright Brothers
Make your children's history lessons come alive with a trip to Boston. Visit Bunker Hill, Paul Revere's house, the Boston Massacre Monument and the Old North Church to instill a sense of our country's beginnings. Boston also brims with museums, from the Boston Children's Museum, Historic New England Museum and the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum. While you're there, don't forget to visit the harbor, the site of the famous Boston Tea Party.
Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina
Battleship North Carolina
Go fly a kite on Kill Devil Hills, and follow in the footsteps of the Wright Brothers as they manned the first airplane on the dunes near Kitty Hawk. Hike the dunes, visit the Wright Brothers National Memorial or go inland a few miles to the Fort Raleigh National Historic Site. Stroll the beaches of the Outer Banks or visit a lighthouse to make your trip truly memorable.
Wilmington, North Carolina
Pavillion at Myrtle Beach
Tour the Battleship North Carolina Memorial Museum, the only floating memorial in the state, to envision the life of a Navy seaman during World War Two, spend an afternoon at the Children's Railroad or Science museums to give your kids a fun filled day. Play in the sun and sand at one of the nearby beaches or tour Fort Fisher, the last stronghold of the South during the Civil War. Take a trip up the Cape Fear River on a steamboat or a horse drawn tour of the city to round out your vacation.
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
Perhaps the vacation capital of the east coast, Myrtle beach boasts over 60 miles of beaches as well as amusement parks, water parks, historical sites, museums, water sports and fishing (both shore and deep sea). With world class golf courses and accommodations ranging from campsites to vacation house rentals to four star hotels, Myrtle Beach can cater to every taste and budget.
Space Coast, Florida
Consisting of the towns of Titusville, Cocoa Beach and Melbourne, this area of the Florida coast has been dubbed "The Space Coast" as the home of the Kennedy Space Center. Visit the Astronaut and Space Halls of Fame, check out one of two IMAX shows, or plan your trip to coincide with a shuttle launch. The beaches themselves are rated world class for surfing and there are nature tours, National parks and the Brevard zoo if your crew tires of playing in the surf.
